The Cubbyhole
We here at The Cubbyhole want to assure you that we use only water based products in the production of our personalized items. All paints and sealers are LEAD FREE. In 1978 Federal regulations were passed that banned the use of lead in any consumer paints.
We have on file all the MSDS (material safety data sheets) for each of the paints and sealers we use in the making of our items. We have letters certifying that products we purchase, such as the pegs we use on our coat racks, also comply with product safety requirements. We also have a copy of testing done from a store inEngland that purchases Cubbyhole items, this certificate states we are in compliance with the European Standard on Safety of Toys. Copies of these forms are available upon request.
Guide Craft
Guide craft prides itself on forty years of manufacturing quality products that put children and safety first. To fulfill our mission, we design and test our products to meet or exceed mandatory safety standards set forth by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
We recognize that certain product components, such as paint and magnets have come under increased scrutiny. As such, we batch-test our paints prior to production for the presence of heavy metals, and have increased both our overseas and domestic testing protocols and quality assurance systems to provide you with safe, durable, and lasting products that will bring years of enjoyment.
Kid Kraft
This guideline was signed into law in August of 2008 and details new regulations for lead and phthalate content, product labeling, advertising and other important aspects of this industry. Some dates and testing protocols are yet to be finalized, but KidKraft is closely monitoring all developments and has already taken actions to guarantee we meet all new safety requirements. Also new this year is the California Air Resources Board (CARB) requirement that sets limits on formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products being sold into California. Our suppliers have been notified about these limits in detail, and they are working to make the requisite changes in their materials and processes. The CARB limitations are rolling out in several phases over the next four years, and KidKraft’s products will fully comply each step of the way. KidKraft has employed independent, certified labs for many years to test our products and see that they meet all applicable U.S. regulatory safety standards. Our testing program ensures that the products meet or exceed all requirements, including mechanical hazards, lead and other heavy metals, and flammability. You have my commitment that KidKraft remains vigilant in ongoing testing and auditing to deliver products you have come to trust. Thank you, Steven Lampert, President
Thanks for your inquiry about our products in regard to compliance with the new CPSIA regulations. In August 2008, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) made a number of changes to consumer product safety laws in the USA. Under the new law, effective February 10, 2009 the lead limit for any children’s product is 600 parts per million (ppm) total lead content by weight for any part of the product. The lead limit will be lowered again to 300 ppm total lead content by weight effective August 2009.
We are pleased to tell you that YES, Melissa & Doug products are compliant with the new CPSIA regulations. From day one, we have had a comprehensive testing program in place for all of the products we produce and sell. Our testing programs have always been in compliance with all US consumer product safety regulations, and we will continue to stay compliant even as some of these laws evolve and change.
As a result, you can continue selling our products with confidence knowing our products comply with the new total lead standards imposed under the CPSIA that become effective February 10, 2009. Of course, we also have General Conformity Certificates readily available for products produced after November 2008 as required under the CPSIA guidelines as further assurance of our products’ compliance to CPSIA.
MELISSA & DOUG SAFETY STATEMENT
From day one, we’ve signed our names, Melissa & Doug, to every product we make. We take that signature seriously — it’s our commitment to you that you can trust the products you bring into your home. As parents, every time we make a product for you, it also has to pass the test of coming home with us, where we enjoy playing with these same toys with all six of our children.
No matter how carefully we design our products, we believe there’s no substitute for TESTING, TESTING, and MORE TESTING. The key to assuring the safety of our products is not simply insisting our factories follow our instructions, but to go one step further and AUDIT, INSPECT, AND TEST, not only once, but at various phases of the production process. This is something we’ve always done.
Additionally, we specifically test our paints and coatings very frequently, to be sure our toys meet or exceed government recommendations limiting heavy metals and lead in children’s items. We have cabinets full of thousands of passing test reports, and these passing results have been verified by 3rd party independently accredited testing laboratories, considered by many to be the best scientific laboratories in the world.
Please continue to enjoy our toys with confidence, knowing that each and every time we design and craft a toy, we’re not only making them for you, but for our own kids too.
